Cydni's School of Dance
CSD consist of qualified instructors that provide training that will prepare those students who desire to enter a career that is professional and/or recreational. We invite you to explore our site and learn more about how we get the most out of every dancer that joins our studio.
Mrs. Cydni has been dancing since the age of three. She studied for over 20 years at Linda Lavender's School of Dance in Monroe, LA, and was a member of the Twin City Ballet Company. Mrs. Cydni studied under the direction of Madame Cecelia Kelly and Linda Ford. She attended college at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and was on the Warbonnets dance line and a member of the ULM Dance Company. She is also now on the Twin City Ballet Professional Board of Directors.
Mrs. Cydni has attended various dance conventions and intensives around the United States. She has studied under world renowned dance professionals, such as Joe Tremaine, Lea Darwin, David Howard, Art Stone, Barry Youngblood, and Gus Giordano to name a few. Mrs. Cydni continues to travel to dance workshops and conventions with her students so they can have the opportunity to train under the dance professionals of today.
Her students have received scholarships to study at the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensives, and scholarships at dance conventions to attend Nationals in New York and Los Angeles. Also, some of Mrs. Cydni's former students have danced on Royal Caribbean Cruise ships, Broadway Shows, in New York and Los Angeles Industrials, and the Atlanta Ballet Company.
Her dancers provide the entertainment for the Miss Minden Pageant and Shreveport pageants. Also, her students have recently been crowned Miss Minden and the talent winner, including her own daughter, Cyd Hutson.
Mrs.Cydni has been tested and accredited by the Southern Association of Dance Masters, and the Joyce Newman Training School.
Marisa Smith Young
Marisa Smith Young has trained at CSD for 20 years. She is a soloist and Artist in Residence at the Twin City Ballet Company, where she has been a member for 10 years. Marisa competed with the CSD Competition teams, and won numerous awards and overall high score awards for her solos. She has received scholarships at dance conventions to dance in Los Angeles and New York, and was awarded overall dancer of the weekend at the Co. Dance Convention, New York City Dance Alliance, JUMP, LA Dance Magic, and LA Dance Force.
Marisa has studied under world renowned teacher and choreographers, such as Mia Michaels, Travis Wall, Tyce Diorio, Nick Lazzareni, Dee Caspary, Joe Lanteri, Ray Leeper, Tabitha and Napoleon, and Danny Tidwell just to name a few. She recently traveled with the TCB and performed in Montreal, Canada.
Marisa is the instructor/choreographer for our Junior and Senior competition teams.
Lauren Murphy began her training with Mrs. Cydni at the age of 3. Throughout the years she has trained with some of the nations leading dance instructors. She began her intensive training at the age of 12 when she joined Twin City Ballet Company as an apprentice and later became an Artist in Residence.
Lauren has received scholarships to study with Joffrey Ballet School, North Carolina School of the Arts, and American Ballet Theater. She has also studied with the International Ballet Competition, the Milwaukee Ballet School, and danced professionally for the City Ballet of San Diego.
Lauren loves to teach the art of ballet and has taught at Southern Arkansas University Continuing education, Magnolia Arts Center, Centenary Collage, City Ballet School in San Diego, and more.
Jemma Killingworth is in her 16 year of training
with CSD. She joined the competition
team in 2009 and the team has won many awards including overall high score and
specialty awards. She became a soloist
in 2013. Jemma has been an assistant
teacher at CSD for more than 4 years and is the Hip Hop instructor for various
age groups. She is also the
instructor/choreographer for the Petite Competition Team.
At the age of ten, Jemma became a member of the Twin City
Ballet Company in Monroe, LA. She is now
a senior company member and is involved in many performances and productions
during the year. She has also attended a
Regional Dance America Festival with the company.
Over the last nine years, Jemma has attended many
competitions, workshops and conventions, such as New York Dance Alliance, LA
Dance Magic, West Coast Dance Explosion, Co Dance, Hollywood Vibe, ASH (Artists
Simply Human), and The Streetz, just to name a few. She trained with many
well-known dance professionals at these conventions; like Tyce Diorio, Joe
Lanteri, Travis Wall, Albert Cattafi, Eddie Moody, Ty Riley and many more.
Jemma has attended Joffrey South in Athens, Georgia, where
she trained in Ballet under the direction of Colleen Barnes. She’s also attended Joffrey Southwest in Denton,
Texas, and trained in Jazz and Contemporary under the direction of Desmond
Jemma has been on the Headmaster/Principal List every year
since Kindergarten. She is a senior at
Claiborne Academy in Haynesville, LA, where she is a member of the National
Honor Society, Student Council, and is the cheer manager for the JV and Varsity
Jemma’s plans for the future are to attend college and pursue
a biochemistry degree. She would love to
be able to continue to teach dance while she’s attending college. After college, Jemma hopes to become a
Samantha Sentell has been dancing with Cydni’s School of Dance for the past 15 years, where she is a soloist and a member of the competition team. In addition to dancing with CSD, Sam is a senior company member of the Twin City Ballet. This past competition season Sam received scholarships to West Coast Dance Explosion, The Streetz Dance Competition, and Dance Makers Incorporated.
In summer 2018, Sam auditioned and was accepted into the University of North Carolina School of The Arts Summer Contemporary Dance Intensive where she focused on cross-disciplinary dance training that was designed to reflect the needs of today’s professional dance world. The program provided a highly focused and extensive pre-professional experience for advanced dancers.
Parker Williams has been dancing with CSD since the age of 2 and has been assisting teach for over 3 years. She has been a competition team member since the age of 5. She is also a member of the Senior Company with Twin City Ballet Company.
Parker has been a soloist with CSD since the age of 7 and has won numerous regional competitions and a national competition. She has received scholarships at conventions such as Co Dance, NYCDA, LADM, Intrigue, West Coast Dance Explosion, The Streetz and Artists Simply Human.
Parker has spent the past 4 summers traveling across the country furthering her dance education at well known summer intensives where she had to audition to attend. She has studied under dance masters at Joffrey Ballet School New York City, Joffrey Texas, USA International Ballet School, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with Twin City Ballet Company for the last 6 years.
Anna Claire Lemoine
Anna Claire is a 14 year old Freshman at Glenbrook School in Minden. She has attended Cydni's School of Dance for 9 years and has been a dance student since the age of 2. Anna Claire has danced competitively with CSD since 2012 and is currently a member of the CSD Teen Competition Team.
During her years at CSD she has attended numerous dance workshops and received scholarships to attend both WCDA and The Streetz. She recently performed in the role of Captain Hook for CSD 2018 ballet, Peter Pan, and was honored to receive the Most Improved Award for Advanced Pointe 2018.
When she is not dancing, she enjoys cheering with Glenbrook Varsity and was recently named a 2018 UCA All-American and winner of the NSU Camp Jump Competition. She also enjoys competing in the Miss Louisiana's Outstanding Teen Program, where she shares her love and talent for dance and is the reigning Miss Spirit of the Ouachita's Outstanding Teen.
